Precision Agritech Display & Control System

Device Solutions designed and delivered a rugged embedded display and control system for precision agriculture. The system provides in-cab operator interfaces, machine control and connectivity, operating reliably in harsh outdoor environments and across long operating days.

Problem

The customer needed a reliable in-cab display and control system for precision agricultural machinery, capable of operating in harsh outdoor environments and across long operating days.

Off-the-shelf display solutions lacked the flexibility and integration required for CAN-based machine control and accurate positioning, while fully custom designs carried risk around development time, manufacturability and long-term support.

The challenge was to deliver a system that could be deployed commercially, supported over time, and evolved through software updates without repeated hardware redesign.

Solution

Device Solutions delivered a custom embedded display and control system combining rugged hardware, a Linux-based operating system and device-level application software.

The solution integrates a daylight-readable touchscreen display, embedded compute, CAN-based machine interfaces, RTK GNSS and connectivity into a single production-ready platform designed for harsh agricultural environments.

Built on the Toradex Torizon OS, the system supports secure updates and long-term maintenance, allowing functionality to evolve through software without requiring hardware redesign.

Outcome

The system has been deployed in commercial vineyard operations.
The hardware platform has proven stable in the field, supporting ongoing software development and feature additions without requiring changes to deployed devices. This has enabled the product to evolve over time while maintaining a consistent hardware base.

By designing the system as a cohesive combination of hardware, operating system and device software, the customer was able to reduce deployment risk and establish a platform suitable for long-term use and support.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates Device Solutions’ ability to deliver complete embedded systems, from custom hardware through to deployed, supportable products.
